Burhan Wani was born on September 19, 1994, in the village of Dadasar in Pulwama. Burhan Wani wanted to become a doctor, scoring more than 90% marks from the eighth grade to every class.

In 2010, the occupying Indian army personnel severely tortured Burhan Wani, including his cousin, for not giving him cigarettes as a bribe. Fed up with the torture and subsequent constant harassment by the police, he joined Hizbul Mujahideen at the age of 16.

Burhan Wani influenced a large number of Kashmiri youth with his bold and unique use of social media. On April 13, 2015, the Indian army martyred Burhan Wani’s brother by severely torturing him during his detention.

Burhan Wani, with his immense popularity, military skills and innovative methods in guerrilla warfare, defeated the occupying Indian forces. In August 2015, the Modi government set a bounty of Rs 1 million on Burhan Wani’s head.

On July 8, 2016, Burhan Wani was martyred by the Indian army in Kokang. More than 200,000 Kashmiris attended Burhan Wani’s funeral.

After Burhan Wani’s martyrdom, widespread riots broke out in the Kashmir Valley. Despite a 53-day curfew, more than 100 Kashmiri youth were martyred in violent protests.

Burhan Wani holds the status of a hero for the young Kashmiri generation due to his tireless efforts, fearless and fearless lifestyle and passion for the freedom movement.
