Indian unilateral actions are a threat to regional peace, Pakistani delegation briefs OIC ambassadors

OIC member states should continue their principled support for Kashmiris’ right to self-determination, Bilawal Bhutto

During a diplomatic mission to inform the international community about the dangerous situation arising from Indian aggression in South Asia, a Pakistani parliamentary delegation briefed the OIC ambassadors, stating that India’s unilateral actions have become a threat to regional peace.

A high-level Pakistani parliamentary delegation led by former Foreign Minister and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari briefed the ambassadors of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries to the United Nations about the serious developments in the context of India’s recent military aggression in South Asia and the baseless allegations leveled against Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack.

Addressing the OIC permanent representatives, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari strongly rejected India’s attempt to link the Pahalgam incident to Pakistan without any investigation or evidence.

He made it clear that this hasty allegation was used to justify illegal military actions by India, including cross-border attacks and targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure.

He expressed deep concern over the unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, which Pakistan termed as a blatant attempt to use water as a weapon and a grave violation of international and treaty obligations. He categorically said that this behavior cannot be allowed to become the norm.

He stressed that India’s belligerent aggression has made the world a less safe place and is having serious implications for peace and security in South Asia.

The former foreign minister thanked the OIC member states for their efforts in conflict reduction, mediation and ceasefire. He said that the only path to peace is dialogue, engagement and diplomacy.

Reiterating Pakistan’s policy of peace, restraint and pursuing a diplomatic path, he called for the restoration of the Indus Waters Treaty, full respect for the ceasefire and the resumption of comprehensive talks with India, based on a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir issue.

He appreciated that the OIC has emerged as the moral conscience of the world in these critical circumstances and thanked the OIC member states for their continued support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He stressed that a just and sustainable solution to the Kashmir issue is indispensable for the establishment of lasting peace in South Asia.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari urged the OIC member states to continue their principled support for the legitimate rights of the Kashmiri people, especially the right to self-determination in accordance with UN resolutions.

The OIC Permanent Representatives appreciated Pakistan’s timely and transparent briefing and expressed their full solidarity with Pakistan and the Kashmiri people. They expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation in South Asia and stressed the importance of upholding the sanctity of the UN Charter, international law and treaties including the Indus Waters Treaty.

The OIC countries welcomed Pakistan’s diplomatic and negotiation efforts in accordance with UN resolutions for the peaceful resolution of all disputes, especially the issue of Jammu and Kashmir.
