Ghulam Nabi Memon: Deficiencies in prison security and staff performance will be reviewed
Karachi: Following the escape of prisoners from Malir Jail last night, IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon made an emergency visit to the jail early in the morning, where he reviewed the security situation and received a detailed briefing from the jail authorities.
Talking to the media, the IG Sindh said that most of the prisoners in Malir Jail are involved in drug cases, many of whom suffer from psychological problems.
He said that such prisoners are prone to restlessness and agitation, which can result in such incidents.
Appreciating the timely and effective action of the police and Rangers, the IG Sindh said that the security agencies immediately cordoned off the area and launched a search operation, as a result of which several prisoners have been re-arrested.
Ghulam Nabi Memon announced that a high-level committee will be formed to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident, which will include officers from the police, prisons, and other law enforcement agencies.
The committee will examine the causes of the incident, the shortcomings in the prison’s security, and the performance of the staff.
He added that the prisoners involved in such incidents will be rearrested as soon as possible and legal action will be taken against them.
