Our economic self-reliance depends on affordable electricity and agriculture, says Prime Minister
ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister has directed to complete projects like Diamer-Bhasha Dam on priority basis to establish an effective system of energy production and abundant water storage in the country. An important meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on the issues of Diamer-Bhasha Dam and other water resources.
The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Engineer Amir Muqam, Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazir Tarar, Federal Minister for Water Resources Moin Wattoo, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs and Inter-Provincial Relations Rana Sanaullah, Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Gulbar Khan and relevant senior government officials.
The Prime Minister said that the construction of new dams is indispensable to increase water storage capacity, provide water required for agriculture and prevent floods.
He said that our economic self-reliance depends on cheap electricity and agriculture, which requires increasing water storage and effective use of water.
The Prime Minister directed to immediately resolve all obstacles hindering the construction of Diamer-Bhasha Dam and complete the project as soon as possible.
