Iranian Foreign Minister arrives in Turkey for OIC meeting

More than 40 foreign ministers are expected to attend the meeting.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has arrived in the Turkish capital Ankara, where he will attend a key meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

More than 40 foreign ministers are expected to attend the meeting, according to the Iranian state-run Young Journalists’ Club.

The meeting comes at a time when tensions between Iran and Israel have reached dangerous levels. Before the meeting, Abbas Araqchi met with European leaders in Geneva on Friday to discuss the current situation.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke twice by phone with US President Donald Trump after Israel’s initial attack on Iran in an attempt to defuse tensions.

However, US President Trump played down the possibility of putting pressure on Israel in a statement on Friday, saying that it was difficult to ask Israel to stop its actions at the moment, which made it clear that the US was providing Israel with full military support.

The OIC meeting will consider a possible tough stance against Israel by Iran, Turkey, and other Muslim countries and a joint response.
