Benazir Bhutto courageously resisted dictatorship and led movements to restore democracy, says President
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has said that Shaheed Bibi’s vision is still a beacon for us, and we will strengthen democracy by taking guidance from it.
In a message issued on the occasion of the 72nd birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, President Asif Ali Zardari paid tribute to her national services and great sacrifices.
The President said that the unforgettable struggle waged by Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto for democracy, human dignity and women’s rights is still a bright chapter in history.
He said that Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto resisted dictatorship with courage and perseverance and led the movements for the restoration of democracy in the country. She fully believed in the rule of law and the supremacy of the constitution. Her vision, sacrifices and deep commitment to the people are the collective legacy of the Pakistan People’s Party.
President Zardari said that Shaheed Bibi always stood for the social and economic autonomy of women. She emerged as the voice of the backward classes and minorities and desired a peaceful, prosperous and democratic Pakistan. Her principled politics still stands as a beacon for the establishment of a just and democratic society.
The President expressed his resolve that, guided by the vision of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, we will not only strengthen democracy but also ensure the protection of the fundamental rights of every citizen.
