Heavy rains started in twin cities, rain emergency declared

The water level in Nala Lai at Katarian has been recorded at 5 feet and at Gowalmandi Bridge at 4 feet, MD WASA said.

Islamabad: Heavy rain has started in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

In view of the threat of heavy rain according to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, WASA Rawalpindi has imposed a rain emergency and the institution is on high alert.

According to the WASA spokesperson, the field staff of the institution is present at different locations with heavy machinery to deal with any emergency situation immediately.

MD WASA Muhammad Saleem Ashraf has said that in view of the intensity of the rain, full monitoring of Nala Lai is being done, however, the water flow is currently normal.

According to MD WASA, the water level in Nala Lai at Katarian has been recorded at 5 feet and at Gowalmandi bridge at 4 feet, which is below the danger level. However, the institution is fully prepared for any possible situation.

According to the Meteorological Department, the highest rainfall of 50 mm has been recorded at PMD and 38 mm in Shamsabad.

MD WASA said that citizens are appealed to avoid unnecessary movement and take special precautions in low-lying areas. In case of any emergency, citizens should contact WASA helpline immediately.
