ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has directed to complete the first phase of the construction of a model jail in Islamabad this year.
Work on the project to build a model jail, pending for 14 years in the federal capital Islamabad, has accelerated and 2 barracks have been completed, check posts and the central watch tower are nearing completion.
In this regard, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the model jail under construction in Islamabad Sector H-16. Minister of State Talal Chaudhry was also with him on this occasion.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi inspected various parts of the model jail under construction and reviewed the progress of construction work. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi set a deadline for completing the first phase of the project this year.
He said that construction activities should be completed within the stipulated time by working day and night. In the first phase, the model jail will have a capacity of 1,500 prisoners. He also directed to construct 2 more barracks in the model jail within 90 days.
Mohsin Naqvi said that the 34-bed hospital and main kitchen in the jail should be completed as soon as possible. He also directed the DIG Islamabad Police to submit a plan for the deployment of staff in the model jail.
In a briefing given on the occasion, it was informed that the construction project of the jail had started in 2011, which was stalled for many years. The Federal Secretary Home, DIG Islamabad Police, Deputy Commissioner, ADCG, CDA officials, contractors and consultants were also present during the visit of the Interior Minister.
