The students were returning from their exams when a short circuit caused a fire in their vehicle, a spokesperson for the Motorway Police said.
Ahmedpur Sharqia: A high-speed van full of female students suddenly caught fire near Ahmedpur East Toll Plaza, killing one student and injuring eight others.
According to Motorway Police spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmed, the fire broke out in the van due to a short circuit, when 18 female students were travelling in the vehicle and were returning after giving exams.
As soon as the accident was reported, the Motorway Police immediately reached the spot and the female students were evacuated from the van, while the injured female students were shifted to Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital by the Motorway Police with the help of Rescue 1122, where they are being provided medical assistance.
The Motorway Police later secured the accident site and restored traffic flow. According to the spokesperson, the driver fled the scene immediately after the accident, and a search and legal action are underway.
