Judicial Commission meeting; Permanent Chief Justices of Peshawar, Balochistan, Sindh and Islamabad High Courts decided

The Judicial Commission meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi.

ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission has decided on the permanent Chief Justices of Peshawar, Balochistan and Sindh High Courts.

A meeting of the Judicial Commission was held under the chairmanship of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi, in which the name of the permanent Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court was considered.

According to sources, the meeting will consider the names of Justice SM Atiq Shah, Justice Ijaz Anwar and Justice Arshad Ali from the Peshawar High Court, after which the Judicial Commission decided to appoint Justice SM Atiq Shah as the Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court.

In addition, the meeting considered the names of Justice Rozi Khan, Justice Muhammad Kamran Khan and Justice Iqbal Ahmed Kasi from the Balochistan High Court, out of which, according to sources, Justice Rozi Khan has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court. It should be noted that Justice Rozi Khan from the Balochistan High Court is at the top of the seniority list.

Meanwhile, the Judicial Commission approved the appointment of Muhammad Junaid Ghaffar as the permanent Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court in the meeting. Justice Junaid Ghaffar is the first in the seniority list of the Sindh High Court, his appointment as Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court was unanimous.

The Judicial Commission meeting also considered the appointment of the permanent Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court, in which the names of Justice Sarfaraz Dogar, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani and Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb came under consideration.

Later, in the Judicial Commission meeting, it was decided to appoint Justice Sardar Sarfaraz Dogar as the permanent Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court. It should be noted that Justice Sardar Sarfaraz Dogar is the first in the seniority list. According to sources, the appointment of Justice Sarfaraz Dogar as the permanent Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court was made by a majority.

According to sources, 9 votes were cast in his favor. 4 members of the Judicial Commission voted in favor of Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb, Justice Jamal Mandokhel did not vote in favor of any judge, Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi voted in favor of Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb.

Two PTI members of the Judicial Commission, Ali Zafar and Barrister Gohar, also voted in favor of Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb. Member of the Islamabad High Court Bar Association, Zulfiqar Abbasi, also voted in favor of Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb.

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Muneeb Akhtar voted in favor of Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani. Justice Aminuddin Khan, Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan voted in favor of Justice Sardar Sarfaraz Dogar. Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar, Pakistan Bar Council representative Ahsan Bhawan also voted in favor of Justice Sardar Sarfaraz Dogar.

Senator Farooq H. Naik and Member of National Assembly Sheikh Aftab also voted in favor of Justice Sardar Sarfaraz Dogar. Minority female member of the Judicial Commission, Roshan Barosha, also voted in favor of Justice Sardar Sarfaraz Dogar. Member of National Assembly, Rana Tanveer, also voted in favor of Justice Sardar Sarfaraz Dogar.

Justice Retired Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui also voted in favor of Justice Sardar Sarfaraz Dogar.

Senator Ali Zafar’s conversation with the media

Earlier, PTI member of the Judicial Commission, Senator Ali Zafar, while talking to the media outside the Supreme Court, said that our position has been that only the senior judge should be appointed as the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court. The issue of judges’ seniority in the Islamabad High Court is still pending in the intra-court appeal.

He said that we will have our opinion in the Judicial Commission, until the intra-court decision regarding the seniority of High Court judges is taken, the matter should not be considered. If our opinion is not accepted, then we will vote. We will not tell who we have to vote for again here.
