Sindh government is labor-friendly, protection of workers’ rights will be ensured, says provincial labor minister
Karachi: It has been proposed to set the minimum monthly wage for workers in Sindh at Rs 40,000.
A gazette notification has been issued by the Secretary of the Minimum Wage Board, according to which it has been proposed to allocate a minimum wage of Rs 41,280 for semi-skilled workers and Rs 48,910 for skilled workers.
In addition, the notification has proposed to allocate a minimum wage of Rs 50,868 per month for highly skilled workers. The minimum wage has been increased under the Sindh Minimum Wages Act 2015.
Objections or suggestions on the proposed notification can be sent to the Secretary of the Minimum Wage Board Sindh within 14 days.
In this regard, Secretary Rafiq Qureshi said that the increase in the minimum wage will come into effect from July 1, 2025. It has proposed an 8.1 percent increase in the wages of workers. It has been directed to pay at least Rs 192 per hour on a daily basis.
He said that the above wages will be applicable equally to all registered and unregistered institutions.
According to Labor Minister Shahid Thahim, female workers will also be paid equal wages to men. Legal action will be taken against violation of the minimum wage. We want to give protection, dignity and a better life to the workers. We will not let the sweat of the workers go to waste under any circumstances.
He said that the Sindh government is a laborer-friendly government and will ensure the protection of their rights.
