Aafia Siddiqui case; Indication of contempt of court proceedings against the Prime Minister and the federal cabinet

If the report on Dr. Aafia’s case is not presented in my court, I will summon the entire cabinet, Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan

Islamabad: The court has indicated contempt of court proceedings against the Prime Minister and the federal cabinet in the Dr. Aafia Siddiqui case.

The case related to the release, health and repatriation of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui was heard in the Islamabad High Court, in which the court expressed strong anger over the federal government’s failure to submit a report.

Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan heard the petition of Dr. Fawzia Siddiqui. On this occasion, lawyer Imran Shafiq appeared in the court on behalf of the petitioner, while Additional Attorney General Rashid Hafeez and others appeared in the court on behalf of the federation.

At the beginning of the hearing, the court said that a report was sought from you regarding the reasons for refusing to cooperate in the US court on Dr. Aafia’s case. If the federal government’s report is not presented in my court, I will summon the entire cabinet.

Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan remarked that why should contempt of court proceedings not be initiated against all the ministers in the federal cabinet? This court will not only take action against the federal cabinet but also against the Prime Minister.

The court said that in the month of June, the court had sought a response. While talking to the Additional Attorney General, he said that he was giving 3 days, the report should be submitted to the court, on which the Additional Attorney General requested that he be given a respite of next week. 5 working days should be given, on which Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan said that I will have annual leave from next week.

Later, the court accepted the Additional Attorney General’s request for respite until next week and adjourned the hearing until July 21.

During the hearing, the petitioner’s lawyer Imran Shafiq said that a miscellaneous application has been filed regarding a meeting with the Prime Minister and the cabinet, on which Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan inquired that what will Fawzia Siddiqui do after meeting the Prime Minister? Doesn’t the Prime Minister know?
