AI Customs Clearance, Risk Management System Introduced for the First Time on Prime Minister’s Directive

The system will be effective due to reduced human intervention, saving time and money, Shahbaz Sharif

Islamabad: On the directions of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, for the first time in the history of Pakistan, the FBR has introduced an Artificial Intelligence (AI) based Customs Clearance and Risk Management System.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, a review meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister regarding the ongoing reforms of the FBR. The meeting was apprised of the video analytics-based measures to increase tax collection in the manufacturing sector.

This system will enable tax collection in these sectors in an automated and transparent manner, which will increase government revenue and taxpayers will be able to pay their taxes without human intervention.

The meeting was also informed that this system is cost-effective and was found to be 98 percent efficient during initial testing. The meeting was also apprised of the potential for increasing tax costs after the implementation of this system in manufacturing sectors.

Federal Ministers Muhammad Aurangzeb, Atta Tarar, Chairman FBR and relevant senior officials attended the meeting.

During the briefing given to the meeting, it was informed that under the new system, the cost and nature of goods will be estimated by artificial intelligence (AI) and bots during the import and export of goods. The new risk management system based on modern technology will continue to improve with the movement of goods as well as with machine learning through automated methods.

It was said in the briefing that more than 92 percent better performance was revealed during the initial testing of the new system.

In the initial testing of the system, not only 83 percent more goods declaration (GD) was determined for tax collection, but also the clearance of two times more goods declaration was completed through the green channel.

The new risk management system will bring transparency to the system, human intervention will be minimal and it will be convenient for business people.

The launch of the new system will allow for quick and effective determination of goods and their cost, which will save time.

The implementation of the new system will reduce the pressure on customs officials, improve transparency and the system and facilitate business people.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister said that FBR reforms are among the top priorities of the government, and by automating the tax system, they are making it more transparent and effective.

The Prime Minister further said that the modern technology-based system will ease business and facilitate taxpayers, and due to reduced human intervention, the system will be effective and save time and money.

The Prime Minister directed to make the new system integrated and sustainable and appreciated the officers and officials of the team working to create the new risk management system.
