The Iraqi government is trying to stop them so that tensions in the region do not increase further.
The American newspaper The New York Times has revealed that Iranian-backed armed groups are preparing to attack American military bases in Iraq and possibly Syria.
According to the report, a senior American official has said that American intelligence and the military have received indications that the activities of pro-Iranian militias have significantly increased, and that they are planning to target American interests.
The New York Times says that so far these groups have not directly attacked any American installations, but the Iraqi government is trying to stop them so that tensions in the region do not increase further.
This development has come at a time when the situation in the entire region has become tense after the US attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities. Iran has reacted strongly to these attacks, warning that there will definitely be retaliation, but the time and method of its implementation will be determined by the Iranian armed forces themselves.
“This attack is a serious violation of international law, and Iran will respond befittingly to this aggression,” Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Saeed Iravani, told an emergency meeting of the Security Council.
