The BRICS group of alternative world powers has strongly condemned the attacks on Iran, calling them a clear violation of international law. However, the organization refrained from directly naming the United States and Israel.
The 17th BRICS summit, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, began a two-day session in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The statement said that the attacks on Iranian civilian and nuclear facilities after June 13 are a serious violation of international law. The BRICS demanded that Iran’s sovereignty be respected and such attacks stopped.
In addition, the BRICS also called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces.
The meeting said that increasing tariffs on global trade could prove dangerous for the global economy. The meeting also supported the accession of Iran and Ethiopia to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
It should be noted that BRICS has now been joined by Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and the United Arab Emirates, making this alliance even stronger and more influential.
