London/Paris: Britain and France have reached a new and tough security agreement to deal with migrants entering Europe illegally.
Under the agreement, people crossing the English Channel in small boats will be immediately arrested and sent back.
British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said: “We will only accept those refugees who really deserve protection, all others will be sent back immediately.”
According to the agreement, the border security agencies of the two countries will fully cooperate with each other to prevent illegal entry. British officials say that return measures will be taken after a short legal process so as not to put unnecessary strain on the system.
On the other hand, French President Emmanuel Macron described the agreement as part of the “Northwood Declaration” and said: “Now for the first time, Britain and France will also coordinate their nuclear defense strategies, so that the enemy gets a clear message that the two countries will respond together in the event of an attack.”
