Attacks by extremist Hindus on the Christian community in the Indian state of Odisha are increasing.

Dr. Ashok Swain has said that a brutal attack was carried out on the Christian community in Malkangiri district of Odisha, 28 people were seriously injured in the brutal attack by Hindutva goons, no one is safe in Modi’s India.
Dr. Ashok Swain said that the attackers entered homes and did not spare even women and children, while the police remained silent spectators. Hate-based attacks against minorities are taking place under the auspices of the BJP, while there is no hope of justice from the Modi government.
In this regard, the investigative teams of the Indian magazine News Rail Asia made shocking revelations regarding the killings of the Christian community.
According to the investigation, “The Christian community in the districts of Nabarangpur, Gajapati and Balasore in the state of Odisha is deprived of the basic right to burial.”
According to News Rail Asia, during March to April 2025, three fact-finding teams confirmed the increasing atrocities on Christians in three districts of the state of Odisha. More than 8 incidents of attacks on Christians were reported in Nabarangpur district from 2022 to 2025. Christian families were prevented from burying their deceased. After the burial of a Christian youth in Nabarangpur district, the body was stolen, and his mother and sister were brutally tortured and thrown out of their house.
According to the Indian Journal, on December 18, 2024, the burial of a Christian youth in Balasore was stopped, tribal Christians faced boycott and threats, while the Indian police remained a silent spectator. On March 22, 2025, the police raided the Juba Catholic Church in Gajapati district, attacked women and girls, while two priests were severely tortured for calling them Pakistanis.
According to News Rail Asia, in Gajapati district, the police broke the shoulder of a priest and tore the women’s veils, Christian religious symbols were desecrated. In several other villages, Christians were prevented from burial in the village cemetery, and bodies were forced to be buried in the forests. Minorities are oppressed in India, while the state machinery is a silent spectator.
According to the Indian Journal, despite complaints, no action was taken against any official, local newspapers published false news to defame Christians, and the Christian community has now been targeted for three generations by calling them “non-traditional”.
Similarly, the Indian magazine Christianity Today has exposed the worst violence against Christians in the state of Odisha.
According to Christianity Today, the state of Odisha is on the verge of communal violence, with a fact-finding team in Nabarangpur district revealing that police personnel are involved in attacks on minorities and playing a role in the atrocities.
According to the report, communal prejudice and caste-based mentality have been embedded in state institutions in the attacks on tribal Christians.
During the Modi government, justice has been buried and the law has become the protector of Hindu extremists. Religious freedom in India is a mere show and minorities are under state oppression.
