Pakistan fully respects this agreement and will take all necessary steps to protect its rights and interests, the spokesperson said.
ISLAMABAD:
The Foreign Office spokesperson has said that Pakistan, on its part, fully respects this agreement and will take all necessary steps to protect its legitimate rights and interests.
Reacting to the statement of the Indian Home Minister regarding the complete rejection of the revival of the Indus Waters Treaty, the Foreign Office Spokesperson said, “This statement is a clear violation of the sanctity of international treaties and a manifestation of gross indifference. The Indus Waters Treaty is not a political understanding but an international agreement in which there is no scope for any unilateral action.”
He said that India’s illegal announcement to suspend the treaty is a clear violation of international law, the provisions of the treaty and the basic principles of mutual relations between states.
The spokesperson said that such behavior sets a very dangerous and irresponsible precedent, which damages the credibility of international treaties and raises questions about the seriousness of a state that openly deviates from its legal commitments.
The spokesperson said that using water as a political weapon is an irresponsible act and is against the internationally recognized principles of statehood. India should immediately withdraw its unilateral and illegal stance and Restore full and uninterrupted implementation of the Indus Waters Treaty. Pakistan, for its part, fully respects this treaty and will take all necessary measures to protect its legitimate rights and interests.
