7 restrictions imposed to maintain peace and order during Muharram
Lahore: Section 144 has been imposed across Punjab from 1st to 10th Muharram, under which many other restrictions including pillion riding have also been implemented.
According to the spokesperson of the Punjab Home Department, Section 144 has been imposed across the province to maintain law and order during Muharram, which will remain in force from 1st Muharram to 10th Muharram, i.e. from June 27 to July 6, 2025.
The Home Department has imposed 7 different types of restrictions across the province under Section 144, which are aimed at ensuring public safety and communal harmony.
According to the notification issued in this regard, only permitted processions and gatherings will be allowed during Muharram. There will be a complete ban on any kind of weapons, flammable materials, or their display in public places without the permission of the competent authority.
In addition, slogans, signs or statements that may incite the feelings of any sect or nationality have also been strictly prohibited. Section 144 will also be applicable to comments based on sectarian or racial hatred through social media or any other means.
There is a complete ban on building morchas on the roofs of buildings located on the procession routes, collecting stones, bricks, bottles or garbage and the presence of spectators. Similarly, sitting or gathering on the steps of shops will not be allowed.
The Punjab government has banned pillion riding on 9th and 10th Muharram, however, all other restrictions will remain in effect for the entire ten days of Muharram, i.e. from 1st to 10th Muharram. According to the spokesperson, senior citizens, women and law enforcement officials will be exempted from the pillion riding ban.
The Punjab Home Department has issued a formal notification for the implementation of Section 144 for public awareness and has directed that this order be widely publicized so that citizens can be informed in a timely manner and ensure the implementation of these orders.
