A military research institute in China has unveiled a mosquito-sized spy drone.
The tiny unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has hair-thin legs and two wings that can be controlled via a smartphone.
Developed by researchers at the National University of Defense Technology (NUDT) in China’s Hunan province, the mosquito-like drone is equipped with sensors that make it useful for covert military operations.
Speaking to China’s state-run military channel CCTV 7, university student Laing Heshangying said that such small bionic robots are useful for special missions and information gathering on the battlefield.
The gadget is part of a growing trend of using micro-drones in commercial and military matters.
The researchers who made it claim that it can be used for things like environmental and disaster monitoring, while in the future it can also be used for artificial intelligence.
