New Delhi: Millions of workers, farmers, bank employees and transport workers in India have gone on a nationwide strike against the Modi government.
According to reports, 30 to 40 crore people participated in the Bharat Bandh, which left railway stations deserted, banks closed, and markets completely deserted.
Offices, schools, public transport and industry were all shut in several states including Kerala, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Maharashtra. According to the CII, the economy suffered a loss of about Rs 15,000 crore in just one day.
The protest was against anti-farmer policies and anti-worker laws. The banking system has been paralyzed and people from villages to cities are demanding justice from the government.
