Observers are calling Netanyahu’s statement a policy of diplomatic flexibility on the one hand and pressure on the other.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that negotiations will be held on the possibility of a permanent ceasefire during the proposed 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, but at the same time warned that if Israel’s conditions are not met, they will be implemented by military force.
Netanyahu said in his latest statement: “If Hamas does not lay down its arms, relinquish its rule over Gaza and eliminate its military capabilities within these 60 days, we will implement these conditions ourselves – even if it means using force.”
He made it clear that these three conditions for a permanent ceasefire are irrevocable for Israel.
It should be remembered that indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas for a ceasefire have been ongoing in Qatar since Sunday, in which the United States, Qatar and Egypt are playing the role of mediators.
Observers are describing Netanyahu’s statement as a policy of diplomatic flexibility on the one hand and pressure on the other, so that Hamas can be held to the maximum extent possible during the ceasefire.
