Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil seeks $20 million in damages against Trump administration

The claim states that Khalil suffered severe mental anguish, financial loss, and damage to his reputation and honor.

New York: Mahmoud Khalil, a prominent leader of pro-Palestinian protests in the United States, filed a $20 million (about Rs. 56 crore) damages claim against the Trump administration on Thursday.

Mahmoud Khalil says he was illegally arrested, detained and tried to deport him in order to intimidate him and his family.

His application was submitted with the support of the Center for Constitutional Rights. The claim says that Khalil suffered severe mental anguish, financial loss and damage to his honor and reputation.

Khalil said: “I wasted 104 days, I was away from my wife, I could not even see the birth of my first child. Now it is time to be held accountable for the abuse of power.”

He said that during his detention, he was kept in a room with more than 70 people, where the lights could not be turned off, there was no privacy.
