Japanese researchers have published a small study on virtual reality video games that may improve players’ eyesight rather than harm it.
Playing video games for long periods of time has been linked to eye problems, but some video games may actually help treat nearsightedness, according to research.
The researchers had a group of 10 people play a very simple VR video game over a six-week period to see how it affected their vision.
The game used in the study was a simple game in which players had to shoot their VR headset controllers at targets near and far, moving further away after each successful hit.
This repetitive task requires players to practice looking at both near and far targets in order to win the game.
After analyzing the results, the researchers concluded that participants who played the game for just three days saw significant improvements in their vision.
