The theme of today’s World Environment Day is land restoration, prevention of desertification and prevention of drought.

Initiatives such as the National Adaptation Plan and Climate Smart Agriculture reflect a commitment to promoting sustainable agricultural practices and halting the decline in land productivity and quality.
Pakistan is taking measures to combat aridity, loss of productivity and drought by restoring degraded forests and agricultural lands.
Community initiatives should be encouraged to promote afforestation in rural and urban residential areas.
There is a need to promote sustainable land management and water conservation practices in Pakistan.
Mobilization of federal and provincial departments and local communities to combat aridity, loss of land productivity and quality, and drought is critical.
We need to plant more trees to effectively manage our water resources, restore pastures and increase soil water retention capacity.
I believe that our focus on addressing the effects of climate change will be critical to ensuring environmental protection.
