Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was recently met by Sheikha Asma Al Thani, the first Qatari female mountaineer to scale Nanga Parbat.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Shehbaz Sharif welcomed Qatari mountaineer Sheikha Asma Al Thani in Islamabad today and congratulated her on recently becoming the first Gulf and Qatari woman to successfully scale Nanga Parbat.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister appreciated Sheikha Asma’s extraordinary courage and determination to achieve this important milestone.
The Prime Minister praised her for promoting awareness of empowering women, especially youth, around the world through adventure and mountaineering.
In recognition of her success and commitment to raising awareness of Pakistan’s natural beauty, the Prime Minister formally appointed Sheikha Asma Al Thani as the Brand Ambassador for Mountains and Tourism of Pakistan.
The Prime Minister said that Pakistan is proud to have five of the world’s fourteen highest peaks, making it a prime destination for mountaineers and adventure seekers.
He thanked Sheikha Asma for choosing Pakistan’s magnificent mountains and playing a valuable role in drawing international attention to their challenges and natural beauty.
He also mentioned the significant contribution of Pakistani mountaineering porters and guides who assist mountaineers around the world in their expeditions, saying that their expertise and dedication are integral to such extraordinary achievements.
Emphasizing the deep and friendly relations between Pakistan and Qatar, the Prime Minister said that Sheikha Asma’s achievement reflects the shared values ​​of courage, positive ambition and perseverance between the two countries.
He expressed interest in expanding bilateral cooperation in the areas of adventure tourism, sports and youth engagement.
The Prime Minister also praised Sheikha Asma Al Thani for her active role as Vice President of the Gender Equality Commission in creating equal opportunities.
The Prime Minister reiterated the Government of Pakistan’s continued support for international mountaineers, assuring them of all necessary facilities, safety and hospitality.
Expressing her best wishes for scaling all fourteen of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks, the Prime Minister invited Sheikha Asma to return to Pakistan for future mountaineering expeditions and to further explore the diverse and captivating landscapes of Pakistan.
Sheikha Asma Al Thani thanked the Prime Minister and the people of Pakistan for their warm hospitality during her visits.
Referring to her recent climb of Nanga Parbat, she praised the cooperation of local porters and guides and also praised the beauty of this magnificent mountain.
She described K2, which she has summited in the past, as the best of all the peaks she has climbed and said its beauty is unparalleled.
