Strong spell of monsoon! Heavy rains across Punjab, low-lying areas submerged

Lahore: The spell of monsoon rains continues, with light and sometimes torrential rains in various cities of the country including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and low-lying areas being flooded.

Clouds fell in various areas of the provincial capital Lahore, including Garhi Shahu, Abbot Road, Mall Road, Islampura, Choburji, Ichhra, Muslim Town, Model Town, Green Town, Nishtar Town, and Johar Town, making the city’s weather pleasant.

In addition, clouds also formed and rained in various cities of Punjab, including Gujranwala, Gujar Khan, Multan and other cities. The Meteorological Department has predicted more rain in the next 24 hours.

According to the report, 7 people lost their lives and 7 were injured in various accidents due to rains in Punjab.

Meanwhile, 10 people died and 7 were injured in accidents during the monsoon in Balochistan. Low-level flooding occurred at the Kandian location of the Indus River. The inflow of water into the Chashma Barrage was recorded at 373,800 cusecs.

It should be noted that the NEOC of the NDMA has issued an alert of heavy rains, flood situation and possible landslides across the country until July 10. According to the alert, water levels are expected to increase in the Kabul, Indus, Chenab and Jhelum rivers. Low-level flooding is expected at the Tarbela, Kalabagh, Chashma and Taunsa locations in the Indus River.

There is a risk of low-level flooding at Marala and Khanki on the Chenab River, while at Mangla on the Jhelum River. There is also a risk of flooding in the adjacent streams of the Swat River and Panjkora due to rains.

In the event of possible rains, the flow of mountain streams and hill torrents in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur is also expected to increase sharply. The flow of local streams and rivers in the districts of Jhal Magsi, Kachhi, Sibi, Qila Saifullah, Zhob and Musakhel of Balochistan is also likely to increase sharply.
