Lahore: Sugar prices in Lahore have once again hit the pockets of the people.
The price of sugar in the wholesale and retail markets has reached Rs 180 per kg, while administrative measures have not proven effective.
According to sources, a 50 kg bag of sugar is being sold in the wholesale market for Rs 8,800, which is Rs 176 per kg. Sugar is being supplied from sugar mills at a rate of Rs 168 to 169 per kg, but this reduction is not reaching the consumers.
Until a few weeks ago, sugar was available in the retail market for Rs 175 per kg, but now the price has increased by Rs 5, despite this, the district administration is limited to raiding retail shops and checking the rate list, while no special attention is being paid to the real problem, i.e. determining prices in the wholesale market.
Citizens have demanded that the government and administration immediately take effective steps to control sugar prices so that the people suffering from inflation can get some relief.
