The former cricketer congratulated the team on becoming captain on Twitter, but the board is still silent.
Former cricketer Basit Ali predicted that national team all-rounder Salman Ali Agha will soon become the Test captain.
Yesterday, while tweeting on social networking site X (Twitter), former cricketer Basit Ali shared a picture of Salman Ali Agha and wrote in the caption that congratulations on the captaincy of the red ball too, a captain of all three formats!
Salman Ali Agha, who clean swept Bangladesh during the home series in the shortest format, is a strong contender for leadership in the Test format as well, he can be appointed captain in place of Saud Shakeel.
Salman Agha is currently serving as the vice-captain, while he has been given the captaincy in the T20 format.
Basit Ali’s tweet has sparked debate in many cricket circles, but the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has not yet issued an official statement.
Two names are under consideration for leadership changes in the Test format, with Saud Shakeel and Salman Agha at the top.
In November 2023, opener Shan Masood was appointed captain of the national Test team, but under his leadership, Pakistan won only 3 out of 12 Test matches while facing defeats in 9.
Similarly, the national team’s performance in the ICC World Test Championship has been unsatisfactory and came in last position, after which there were echoes of removing him from the captaincy.
In the Test format, the national team is currently at 9th place on the points table while facing whitewash in series against Australia, Bangladesh and South Africa.
