Thai court suspends PM from office in phone call scandal

The court has made it clear that the Prime Minister’s suspension will remain in place until the case is fully heard and a decision is made.

Thailand’s Constitutional Court has temporarily suspended Prime Minister Phatthana Shinawatra from her post.

The move comes after she was accused of violating the constitution after a controversial phone call was leaked.

According to a court statement, the prime minister cannot perform her duties until a decision is made on a petition filed by 36 senators.

The senators have accused the prime minister of serious charges such as dishonesty, non-transparent governance and violating the country’s constitution.

The controversy began when a phone call between the Thai prime minister and a former Cambodian prime minister was leaked, in which she is heard criticizing a senior Thai military officer.

The phone call came to light after clashes on the Thai-Cambodian border, for which she faced intense public and political pressure, even as calls for her resignation began to grow.

The court has made it clear that the prime minister’s suspension will remain in place until the case is fully heard and a decision is made.
