Sindh’s development budget is not just about distributing money but a vision to improve public life, says senior provincial minister
Karachi: Senior Minister Sindh Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that other projects including desalination of seawater will be completed with the support of international organizations.
In his statement regarding the provincial budget, Senior Minister Sindh Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that the development budget of the provincial government is not just about distributing money but also about improving the lives of the people. The development budget for 2025-26 is a continuation of the people-friendly policies of the PPP, the vision of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto and President Asif Ali Zardari.
He further said that by presenting a historic development budget of Rs 1.018 trillion, we have proven that we do not just make promises, but believe in practical work. The Sindh government has made important development projects part of the budget for the fiscal year 2025-26, keeping in mind the public needs and long-standing problems.
Senior Provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon said that a development package of Rs 7.7 billion has been provided for the divisional headquarters of Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas and Shaheed Benazirabad. Similarly, projects for road improvement, water supply, drainage, education, health and other civic amenities will be completed in the divisional headquarters.
Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the construction of Korangi Causeway Bridge in Karachi, expansion of Shahrah-e-Bhutto and expansion of the Safe City project are among the government’s priorities. Significant steps have been taken for water supply and drainage across Sindh. Rs 3.1 billion has been allocated for the rehabilitation of Hub Canal, Rs 2 billion for Shahdadkot Water Supply Scheme.
He said that projects like 5 MGD seawater desalination plant and TP-4 sewage treatment plant in Karachi will be completed with the support of international organizations. With financial assistance to 200,000 farmers, a mechanization package, drip irrigation system and horticulture clusters are being introduced in the agriculture sector at a cost of Rs 33 billion.
Sharjeel Memon said that under the Sindh People’s Housing Scheme, 2.1 million houses are being constructed for flood victims, whose ownership rights are being given to women and they are being empowered.
Similarly, Rs 21.7 billion has been set aside for providing facilities, financial assistance and rehabilitation to people with different abilities. Out of the total 3,642 projects, 3,161 are ongoing schemes and 481 are new schemes, while Rs 119.5 billion has been set aside for special development measures.
