ISLAMABAD: Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Shamshad Mirza says that there is a risk of nuclear conflict in the South Asian region, the root cause of tension between Pakistan and India is the Kashmir issue, the solution of which is inevitable.

In the context of Pakistan-India tension, the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee presented a detailed position at the 22nd Shangri-La Dialogue 2025.

General Shamshad Mirza called India’s use of water as a weapon a clear violation of international law.

The Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee said that Asia-Pacific has become the center of global power and negotiations are indispensable for the security of South Asia, conflict prevention is better than post-crisis efforts.

General Shamshad Mirza said that Pakistan wants a lasting peace with India based on dignity, equality and respect, and the resolution of the Kashmir issue in accordance with UN resolutions is the basis of peace in South Asia.

The Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee stressed the need to make the existing dialogue frameworks at the bilateral, regional and global levels active and effective. He said that Pakistan wants a principles-based global system that is based on sovereignty and restraint.

General Shamshad Mirza said that the situation of the Indo-Pak war after Pahalgam is endangering the development of the region, due to the lack of an effective system to deal with the crisis, the world powers are unable to intervene in a timely manner. An attempt to stop or divert Pakistan’s water will be considered an act of war according to the National Security Committee.

Giving a briefing at the Shangri-La Dialogue, General Shamshad Mirza said that India violated the UN Charter by targeting civilians and places of worship. Pakistan has been continuously demanding the restoration of a formal dialogue system from India and the international community, but no crisis can be resolved effectively without equality, trust and sensitivity.
