Israeli Prime Minister says US is supporting efforts to relocate Gaza residents to neighboring countries
Washington: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said during a meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House that he rejects a two-state solution in Palestine, because an independent Palestinian state could become a “platform for the destruction of Israel.”
Netanyahu said that the Palestinians should have the right to govern themselves, but issues such as security should always remain under Israeli control.
Trump also hinted at progress on the controversial plan to expel Palestinians from Gaza, saying that “there has been wonderful cooperation from all the countries around, something good is going to happen.”
The Israeli prime minister said that the United States is supporting him in his efforts to relocate Gaza residents to neighboring countries. Trump also confirmed that his team is active in the region and important decisions are expected soon.
Netanyahu added: “If the Palestinians want to go, they will be allowed to go, we are looking for a better future for them.”
The meeting came as diplomatic efforts to strengthen the ceasefire agreement following the Israel-Iran war are underway.
Trump said his administration intends to talk directly with Iran and that sanctions on Iran could be lifted at the appropriate time.
During the meeting, Netanyahu also presented Trump with a letter for the Nobel Peace Prize, which Trump expressed his delight at.
A large number of Palestinians demonstrated outside the White House, demanding Netanyahu’s arrest and an end to arms supplies to Israel.
