India cannot store water even by building dams, its own population is at risk of flooding, report says
A report by Arab TV Al Jazeera states that “unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty is not possible.”
Narendra Modi’s Hindutva policy in India has brought the region to the brink of water disaster. In this regard, Al Jazeera’s detailed report has revealed India’s incompetence and limited capabilities.
According to the Al Jazeera report, unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty is impossible and the consent of both countries is necessary to terminate or change the agreement. India cannot store water even by building dams, and the threat of floods threatens its own population.
According to the report, India wants complete control over the water of the rivers by occupying Kashmir and for this, India is making the water issue a part of politics again.
According to Islamabad-based environmental and water expert Naseer Memon, this is a “political trick” of the Indian government, which instead of changing the flow of water, only wants to spread fear in Pakistan.
According to Majid Akhtar, a senior lecturer in geography at King’s College London, “India’s suspension of the treaty is an attempt to cause symbolic damage to Pakistan, not immediate damage.”
According to Ajay Banga, President of the World Bank, “There is no scope for unilateral suspension in the Indus Waters Treaty.” The treaty can only be changed or terminated with the mutual consent of both countries.
According to Antama Banerjee, a political analyst and water expert from New Delhi, “India cannot stop the flow of the river, it can only temporarily regulate the discharge.”
According to Dean Heinz, an environmental historian and author at University College London, “Immediately after the Pahalgam attack, India suspended the treaty, using water as a political weapon.”
The Al Jazeera report says that India is openly violating the law by ignoring the decision of the International Court of Justice.
